The junior section are looking for helpers and budding coaches to help out on Thursday nights. Please se the appeal below:
As many clubs do from time to time we are seeking volunteers who are able and feel they would like assist us to deliver structured and safe sessions to our young athletes.
If you feel can spare an hour or more of your time we would like to hear from you?
Volunteers would be subject to an enhanced C.R.B check as you would be working with young people.
You may be require to assist a coach on a run, so appropriate foot wear and outdoor clothing for the occasion would be a bonus.
If you feel you can help please contact Wendy on 01298 23759 or speak to one of the coaches after the session.
The Junior section will now have its own dedicated page on the website. This page will keep all ujunior athletes and the parents/guardians updated on training and racing.
Each of the coaches will present herself/himself.
There are two organised club sessions during the week. The Monday session is for the over-11s only. There are three groups at the Thursday sessions, one group for the under-11s, one group for sprinters and field athletes and one endurance group.
| Day | Time | Meeting Place |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | 18.00-19.00 | Over-11s, The Small Gym, Buxton Community School |
| Thursday | 18.00-19.00 | The Sportshall, Buxton Community School |
| Saturday | 10.00-11.00 | Buxton Community School |
The cost for each of these sessions is £1.50.
The Monday session is an indoor session in the Small Gym during the winter. We do circuit training and plyometric exercises as well as working on technique and flexibility. The older juniors might go for a longer run, on the road, if we cannot use the Gym for some reason. The Gym is at Buxton Community School.
The Thursday session is usually run on the grass track during Spring, Summer and early Autumn, if the field is not too wet. Otherwise, the Endurance group will venture up into the woods when it is too wet to use the field. The Sprint, Jups and Throws groups may use either Temple Fields or go down to Broad Walk. The Endurance group run on the road during the winter, or do their session on Broad Walk or around the boating lake in Pavilion Gardens to avoid the traffic. The Sprints, Jumps and Throws groups tend to use Broad Walk.
The Saturday session is specifically targeted at the younger athletes. This is based on Sportshall exercises which will prepare the athletes for Sportshall athletics competitions as well as improving their speed, strength, coordination and flexibility.
The Derbyshire County Athletic Association runs a series of four track & field fixtures on Saturday mornings. These are relatively low-key affairs. It is an excellent opportunity to get used to competing in front of a crowd and to try out new events. The league is open athletes in the U11, U13 and U15 age groups. The athletes must be nine years of age or older on the day of the competition. The competitions are all held on Saturday mornings at Moorways Stadium in Derby. The first event starts at 10:30am. The programme for each fixture are not known yet. The dates are as follows:
| Saturday 21st April 2012 | Moorways Stadium, Derby |
| Saturday 9th June 2012 | Moorways Stadium, Derby |
| Saturday 7th July 2012 | Moorways Stadium, Derby |
| Saturday 11th August 2012 | Moorways Stadium, Derby |
