Introduction

It is quite time consuming setting up a website for the first time. I have focussed on including as much material as possible in a first pass. The intention is to expand on the material already contained in the documents, as well as completing the gaps. Last but not least, it is our (Buxton AC's) website not mine and your wishes must be accommodated.

This is a longer-term project and a website is like a living organism in that it evolves. If it cannot adapt, it will die, or at least not receive any hits.

Roadmap

My proposed refinements/extensions of the website are as follows:

Version No. New Features Target Date
1.1
  • Club committee minutes – possibly password protected;
  • Club newsletters to be accessible from the website (PDF format/MS-WORD format);
  • Guestbook; Please sign our guestbook. Added: 01/05/2005
  • General jazzing up of the site; and
  • Revision of colour schemes(?).
01/09/2008
2.0
  • Separate Junior section – taking into account Child Protection issues; and
  • Further refinements to the information (on-going process).
31/12/2008

Acknowledgements

I have used Stone's WebWriter v3.5.2e for HTML creation and the GIMP for figure manipulation. I am also greatly indebted to Eric Meyer, Stu Nicholls and Claire Campbell, to name but a few, for their learned treatises on Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). The website is quite compliant with W3C HTML 4.1 and (I think) CSS v1.2.

Technical Issues

I have designed and tested the website using the following web browsers:

Software Version No. Download
Firefox 2.0.0.14
Internet Explorer 7.0
Netscape Navigator 7.2
Acrobat Reader 8.1.2

The browsers should run under the following operating systems: Linux and MS Windows (98/NT/2000/XP)

There are huge differences in how the different browsers display the html-documents. I will do my utmost to ensure that the pages display well on all these browsers. I am not able to cover the Apple Mac angle since I do not have access to a Mac. Click on the logos if you want to download a new or updated version of a browser.

PDF-formatted document are in general smaller than the corresponding wordprocessor file. You might like to consider a download of Acrobat Reader, which is free, using the link above.
